So, you want to get serious about your digital marketing strategy for an upcoming campaign but, between online courses, Google searches and what you see your competition posting, your head is spinning in a million different directions. Sound familiar?

We can help. Before launching any marketing campaign, it is beneficial to develop a solid strategy to maximize your ROI and increase the likelihood of success. Here are some tips to do just that.

Establish your goals: In the grand scheme of things, your big-picture goal is always going to be to make a profit. However, it’s important to narrow your focus to the goal of the specific campaign. For example, are you trying to grow your audience? Increase engagement? Get signups for a program? Focusing on just one clear goal is going to be the most effective approach.

Define your audience: There is a saying that if you market to everyone, you’re marketing to no one. No matter how many ways you slice it, you just can’t be everything to everyone. Get clear on who your target customer is and then remember to only talk to them at every touchpoint of your campaign.

Identify channels: Consider where your audience is spending most of their time, including which platforms they use the most and what devices they are using them on. If you’re not sure, a little bit of market research might make sense here. Once you have a clear understanding, it’s time to get started on tailored messaging to these platforms.

Develop a strong message: Now that you know who you’re talking to and where you’re talking to them, you will need to figure out what you are going to say. Communicate the values of your product or service and why someone’s life or career is going to be enhanced if they purchase it. Do this by speaking less about yourself and more about your audience’s problems you are solving for.

Measure success and opportunity: Before you go live with your campaign, you will want to define the success of it. Establish some key performance indicators (KPIs) that will tell your team if the campaign is working or if there is some room for improvement. This will not only tell you where adjustments can be made mid-campaign but will help you maximize future campaign budgets as you hone in on what is most effective.
