It’s true what they say about having to pay to play when it comes to marketing. This can be a challenge for small businesses or nonprofits that have little to no marketing budget to work with. While we always recommend a solid ad marketing strategy, there are a few things you can do to get more bang for your buck or to kick things off until your budget grows.

Google My Business: For now, a Google My Business listing is completely free and you’re missing a major opportunity if you haven’t claimed yours. Just like with other platforms, you can post offers, events and business updates to a stream. However, with a Google listing, you get the added benefit of Google search traffic.

Email Marketing: Email marketing is still a tried-and-true communication channel but one that many forget about or do wrong by spamming their subscribers. Obtaining an email address for someone ensures you can continue a conversation about your service and product even if they aren’t quite ready to buy. Note that many email platforms are switching over to paid models, including former freebies like MailChimp, but luckily fees are still minimal.

Social Collaborations: An easy way to expand your reach and tap into new audiences is to partner with another business that has overlaps with your target demographic. This can be done by tagging other businesses, which often encourage shares, on relevant social media posts or co-hosting live videos on platforms like Facebook or Instagram. Consider things that have value to both of your businesses.

Hosting Webinars: Hosting webinars is the perfect opportunity to establish your expertise on a specific topic while also obtaining potential customer or client information for lead nurturing. This can be done for free on Zoom and, for added exposure, Facebook events can be used to promote your webinar.

Blogging: Setting up a blog on your website has many benefits. For starters, you can share valuable information and resources relevant to your business with new or existing customers. With a great keyword strategy, your blogs can be discovered in search results easier, giving you added exposure. It’s easy to add a blog to any website and once you get in the rhythm, topic ideas will begin to flow easily.
